When I was a kid my family lived for a few years in a 2 bedroom apartment in a reasonably scuzzy neighborhood in Everett, WA. Inexplicably, the car dealership near our very humble abode usually had several luxury automobiles parked prominently near the sidewalk.

My brother and I would walk past on our trips to go shoplift toys and candy from the Fred Meyer pretty frequently... and because it was 1987, he decided our lives would be a lot more easy, we'd command a lot more respect, if we wore Mercedes hood ornaments as pendants. Because nothing says tough like a scrawny 9 year old white girl with a bad perm, huge glasses and a Mercedes hood ornament for a necklace hidden under her International News sweater.
